February 3, 2009 Update

Nathan is 6 weeks old today (35 weeks) and has now reached 5 lbs 10 ozs. He is making wonderful progress with nursing - receives anywhere from 20 mLs to 60 mLs on his own at one feeding. The doctors and nurses are amazed with his nursing progress; one doctor said that he gets the award for the best nuzzler.

His second eye exam was on January 28 and the results were good (his eyes are fully developed now). This morning (February 3) he passed his hearing test. He has upgraded to newborn size diapers instead of preemie. In the next day or so we will introduce the bottle since he has been alert and interested when waking up for feedings and has been sucking well on the pacifier through whole feedings. Hopefully he will no longer need his feeding tube when he does well with the bottle and continues to do well with nursing.

The nurses just love Nathan and think he is so adorable (of course Mommy agrees). One nurse today said that she wanted to stick him in her pocket and take him home.

Here are some recent pics............

On January 29th - check out the little pants (this is a two piece outfit).

On January 30th between changing out his feeding tube. The white residue on his face is from the tape.

Here he is today at 6 weeks old (all the ones on down are from today too).

Robin, his evening primary nurse, took this picture for us - Nathan is all zonked out after his bath (that I gave him all by myself) and nursing.

  1. What exciting progress Nathan has made, yeah! I love that the nurse wanted to stick him in her pocket, that made me LOL! Don't you just have so much fun giving him a bath? That is one of my favorite times of the day, does Nathan like baths?
