Nothing But Nathan: Summer Freckles, Gum & Tape

June 2015 Highlights:
Nathan is very creative and crafty. He likes to create objects out of paper and tape the pieces together. We're talking lots of tape! Nathan now has his own tape supply to leave the household tape alone. Items he has made out of paper - a boat for his toy guys, a shield, and a sword. He also has fun with popsicle sticks. He made a walkie talkie and several stick guys. He applies great detail to his creative items with markers. I've noticed at times he is more interested in drawing, coloring, cutting paper, or playing with Play-Doh rather then playing with toys.

Father's Day 2015

July 2015 Highlights:
We celebrated 4th of July at our house; just the three of us! Nathan enjoyed the snakes and sparklers while we were waiting for the neighborhood night firework show. I think Nathan enjoyed stomping on the snakes the most after they were done growing. Nathan really liked having popcorn with Twizzlers and soda pop out on the deck watching the fireworks.

Nathan took swim lessons this summer for two weeks. I was nervous that he would be hesitant with the water since he hasn't had much experience with a pool before. No worries; he is a little fish in the water and passed the beginner class with no problem! This fall we will continue on to level one swim classes.

Daddy's work provided tickets to attend Adventureland again this year. Unfortunately Daddy was unable to join us because of work. Nathan and Mommy met up with Uncle Tyler and Aunt Jamie at the park. It was a great sunny day for the outing. We also went to the water park side (Adventure Bay) this time. It was a nice way to cool down and relax for a while in the lazy river. Nathan and Uncle Tyler went down a big water slide. Nathan did really well and of course loved every ride. His favorite ride is the roller coaster. Crazy kid!

We were informed by Nathan that he now has a new girlfriend; her name is Hana. Nathan discovered this blonde little girl from the summer school program. She is also a first grader! They liked to sit together on the bus sometimes when going on a field trip for the day. They also give each other hugs at times. Oh boy what do we have to look forward to when he is old enough to date......

Gum, gum, gum! Nathan has become a big fan of chewing gum. At first he would ask for a piece of gum at the wrong time of the day such as right before supper or right before it was time to get ready for bed. He would chew multiple pieces of gum a day if we let him. And of course, he likes the good kind that Mommy and Daddy chew, not the cheap bubble gum flavor kind. We have gone through several packs of gum already this summer.

August 2015 Highlights:

Nathan spent a week with Grandma and Grandpa Wiese in Omaha at their house. He was spoiled with several outings together such as going to the zoo, seeing a movie at the theater, and going to the science center. Nathan had a great time and did just fine being away from home (who was worried?). The house was so quiet while he was away. Mommy didn't know what to do with herself; there was so much extra time to get things completed around the house. Imagine that!

Nathan's six year well-child checkup was scheduled for this month. Thought it would be a great idea for him to visit our family doctor before school starts. He is a strong, healthy, and growing boy. He weighted in at 55 lbs and measures at 4' 2" tall. He is in the 90 percentile for height and 76 percentile for weight. You would never know he was born a preemie! His feet are almost as big as Mommy's; he is about a big toe's length away from outgrowing adult feet in our house! He wears Boys size 2 for shoes and Boys size 7 shirts and 5/6 for shorts.

We attended Meet the Teacher on August 21. This year Nathan will be attending a different elementary school because of where our new house is located. We are still in the same great school district, just a different elementary building. Unfortunately the distance of the school is further away than what we had before so it will be just a matter of adjusting our morning schedule getting out the door. We were able to visit the different rooms in the school that Nathan will need to know and we met several teachers for his different classes. The new school surroundings did not really phase Nathan like I thought it would; I suppose that is a good thing.

Nathan's appetite is starting to change from eating like a little bird to eating like a horse. A few times after his food is all gone at supper, he would ask for more...or start picking food off Daddy's plate. I think someone is having a growth spurt!

August 24 marks the first day of school for Nathan as a First Grader! He is excited about his brand new Batman book bag. Both Mommy and Daddy took Nathan to school his first day. There was some extra time before school started so he played on the playground equipment.

Why is it that he remembers lunch and recess the most when we ask him about his day? What about the learning part? He eventually shares a few details about his day. Nathan already knows a few kids in his class from the summer school program or from our neighborhood which is awesome! Nathan was pretty tired after a full week back to school but overall he is doing great getting into the school routine again.

First Grader!

Here is a great event to wrap up the end of the month. On August 29 Nathan and Daddy camped out in our backyard. They packed up their sleeping bags, grabbed their pillows and flash lights and slept in a one man tent! Nathan was stoked about camping out in the backyard. He was all smiles and giggles while they were getting setup and ready for the night. The three of us enjoyed s'mores around our fire pit before they snuggled into the tent for the night. The house was so quiet while they were outside having guy time. They fell asleep really late and woke up bright and early at 6:30am the next morning.
