April 2017 Highlights:
I don't think this chair will fit in our yard very well but it was sure fun to sit on and pose for a picture. Nathan thought this was a hilarious find at our local furniture store!
Nathan enjoy performing in his school music concert. In addition to singing with his class, he had an instrument part with the xylophone. It was funny hearing him sing a few of his favorite songs around the house or in the shower.
We had a nice quiet Easter with Nana and Papa this year. Nathan loves the tradition of coloring eggs with Nana and going on an egg hunt around their house. This year Nathan was interested in what a hard boiled egg was all about so he cracked one open to find out. His face expression below will let you know what he thought of it. I think the highlight of his Easter basket goodies was the super soft plush bunny he received!
For the first time, and probably never again, I had my very own garage sale. A mystery shopper appeared at my sale to cheer me up when it was slow foot traffic. He made my long hours spent in the garage entertaining.
Nathan worked so hard during AWANA this past season with so many verses to memorize. This was his last year of Sparks and to stay on track he completed his last two books! What a trooper! In the fall he starts the next level, Truth and Training. Look at this proud smile displaying his ribbon and trophy.
Did you know we have a master Lego builder in our house? Nathan will spend a lot of time in his room building sets from instruction books or just making his own creations. Below is a robot Nathan came up with. We just love his imagination!
May 2017 Highlights:
There is no lack of laughter or entertainment around our household. Nathan has been saying "JK" (just kidding) and "that was epic" a lot after anything he talks about! Silly boy!
The weather warmed up enough to have a few meals on our patio already. We really enjoy our outdoor living space.
We spent Mother's Day with the whole Wiese family this year. It was nice to have everyone together for lunch and visiting. Nathan enjoyed playing with his cousins.
This summer Nathan will be wearing size 8 shirts, size 7 shorts, and size 3.5 shoes! We certainly have a growing boy on our hands and his feet will soon be the size of mine! His tall and skinny body continues the trend of having his pants/shorts be a size smaller then his shirts.
We enjoyed our Memorial weekend with Nana and Papa. Nathan loved playing with Uncle Brandon's old toys; the Nerf dart blaster came out of storage this visit.
June 2017 Highlights:
June 2 marked the last day of second grade. I joined Nathan for the school lunch BBQ. We had fun sitting with some of his close friends out on the lawn. Good thing I brought along a big blanket this year. These boys hardly ate any lunch because of so many giggles and excitement!
This is the first summer Nathan gets to stay at home and not attend some sort of childcare since I continue to be a stay-at-home mom. I made a "Summer Rules" list to make sure he has plenty of outdoor and creativity time, limited electronic time, keep up on reading chapter books, practicing math, and work on writing. Also this summer we spent time learning how to tie his shoe laces. He succeeded in just a week! Way to go Nathan!
A few great ways to beat the heat is having fun on our new Slip-n-Slide or running through the wiggly noodle sprinkler head. Nathan had a great time getting all wet! It was fun watching his face expressions and hearing him laugh.
We had beautiful weather for Father's Day. Grandma and Papa were in town for a visit so it was great to be with them for a while!
Nathan spent a week with his Grandma and Papa at their house. His week was filled with lots of fun activities. The three of them went for bike rides, visited the zoo, went to the movie theater, swam in their neighbors swimming pool, and even built a fort in the backyard! It was so quiet around the house with Nathan gone but we are happy he had a great time and created wonderful memories with his grandparents.
Our son is such a big helper around the house. He does great with his chore chart. Most days he does not grumble or complain about his chores. But Nathan especially loves helping his Dad out in the yard whenever Isaac has a project going on.
Nathan is a mint and gum disposal!!! Multiple times a day he would ask for a mint or a piece of gum. If he could, he would have gum or mints all day long. We now limit him to one piece of gum and one mint a day. One afternoon he just finished chewing a piece of gum and spit it out, then proceeds to ask if he can have a mint. Uh, no Nathan, you just had gum! This kid just loves to have a minty fresh breath apparently.
July 2017 Highlights:
Our family spent the 4th of July with Nana and Papa as well as Uncle Brandon who was visiting. The enormous sparklers were Nathan's favorite. He was able to light some of his own fireworks this year which made me nervous but his Dad was always by his side. Nathan also enjoyed trying to catch lighting bugs over the holiday weekend since he got the pleasure of staying up in the dark.
We signed Nathan up for private swim lessons this summer to see if this atmosphere and teaching method would be better for him. We are so thankful that we did because Nathan did an amazing job in two weeks of lessons. He can swim free style and breast stroke with confidence now and his back stroke technique has improved but still a work in progress. So proud of you Nathan!
This month Nathan attend Vacation Bible School (VBS) at our church. He enjoyed bringing home the trinkets each night that related to their lesson and telling us about them.
August 2017 Highlights:
A friend of ours invited us over to use their swimming pool this summer. We were thankful for this so Nathan could continue practice swimming...as well as having fun pool time splashing and playing with water toys. This was one of many great benefits of staying at home with Nathan this summer!
Time for third grade school supply shopping! Nathan enjoyed picking out his composition notebook, googley monster supply bag, and jumbo size eraser. We are reusing his Spiderman backpack and matching lunchbox this year which is awesome.
Got s'mores? Nathan had been asking us several times when we would be able to roast marshmallows over our fire pit to make s'mores. So we bought ingredients and enjoyed an evening outdoors making treats together. We enjoyed watching him prepare his s'more and then devour it.
Nathan's level of maturity has changed dramatically over the summer, showing us that he's growing up, wanting to learn more, as well as controlling his temper better. Lately he has asked us a lot of questions wanting to know the definition of many words that he's been reading. Keep that brain growing!
The master Lego builder continues! Over the course of the whole summer Nathan has spent many hours creating an amazing Lego city in his bedroom. Every day he added more and more to his city that was setup on a card table. There was a lot of detail and thought he put into every part of the city from the people to the buildings to all the little accessories. My personal favorite was the Hispanic singer holding a guitar with his sombrero hat upside down beside him with a couple coins inside. The city name of Nathanville sounds appropriate, right?
Nathan had a good report at his annual well-child checkup. He weighed in at 62 lbs and at 4 feet 6 1/2 inches tall. The doctor said that he grew two inches since last year. He is at 86 percentile for height and 54 percentile for weight - in other words tall and skinny!
The end of this month Nathan ended up with a summer cold. He went through all the tissues in the house! Poor thing...and poor nose! We are thankful that this happened before school started so he could be back to his healthy self on the first day of school.
Speaking of first day of school, our third grader started school on August 24. He was excited to see his friends again and was happy to discover that one of his best friends is in his classroom.
