For a while Nathan had been talking about wanting to build a ramp for his remote control car with Dad, so they put their plan into action this fall. Nathan drew a concept design on what he thought the ramp could look like (below) and off they went to the local hardware store for supplies. Nathan got hands-on experience using a saw and hammer all by himself. They had fun building this awesome ramp together. Nathan came up with the logo for the ramp too.
It's AWANA time again. Nathan is a part of the Truth and Training group. With these new classes come longer verses to memorize weekly including to recite each previous weeks verse. We are so proud of Nathan on how quickly he can memorize a new verse in just a short amount of time. Truth and Training also has a weekly Bible study to complete together at home which is great to get into a routine of studying God's Word.
On the 13th this month Nathan had a baby tooth pulled for him at the dentist office. It was loose but wasn't wanting to come out. It turns out it was mostly stuck between two teeth. Here is brave Nathan after his trip to the dentist.
Nathan shared with us how much he loves learning multiplication. How awesome is that! This kid is great at math and loves science too! Of course P.E. is right up there as a favorite as well but as parents we are so excited that he has a love for learning. Keep up the great work kiddo!
October 2017 Highlights:
One morning Nathan woke up on his own, got dressed, made his bed and came downstairs with his backpack all ready and prepared to go to school....only one problem....it was Saturday! He had never done that before.
Fall and winter clothes this year will be the same shirts (size 8), new pants now size 10 (needs all the length he can get), and size 4 shoes. A new winter coat and snow pants were in order this year since he outgrew his previous outerwear.
Nathan carved his very own pumpkin this year! He was very proud of his pumpkin face and loved watching it glow in the dark on the front porch.
After thinking long and hard, Nathan finally made a decision on who he wanted to dress up like for Halloween - Kylo Ren from Star Wars. Beggars night was cold and windy. Isaac stayed home to hand out candy this year while Nathan and I braved the weather and walked the neighborhood for a hour and fifteen minutes. We did not ring everyone's doorbell but he still came home with a bucket full of candy.
November 2017 Highlights:
Nathan had his six month dentist checkup and during that visit he asked to have a loose tooth pulled because it was hurting him. It was a good thing he talked to the dentist about it because that tooth was irritating his gum. Good job Nathan for speaking up!
Nathan's third grade picture is here. He looks so handsome and is growing up way too fast. Nathan loves his teacher this year.
We had a shoelace mystery occur on a brand new pair of shoes! Nathan could not explain what happened to his shredded shoelace when he came home from school one day. He was upset thinking that we had to throw away the shoes, not realizing that we can just get replacement laces. Oh boy!
This month was hard for our family, especially Nathan. We had to say goodbye to one of our cats, Daisy. Daisy Bear, as we called her a lot, was Nathan's favorite pet. She warmed our hearts and laps and will be missed dearly.
On a happier note, we started construction in our basement. It had been unfinished since we've moved in almost three years ago. We're excited to have extended family space in our home, especially with Nathan getting older. It will make for a fun hang out spot for him and his friends.
Thanksgiving Day plans with the Wiese family changed at the last minute. We were 99 percent packed for an overnight stay with Nathan's grandparents when we decided it was best to call off our holiday gathering because all three of us were sick. This was the first holiday that we had to cancel plans. We whipped up a small Thanksgiving meal for the three of us to enjoy at home.
December 2017 Highlights:
It's (family tradition) cookie baking time! Every year Nathan asks if we could make star cookies together. He's such a good helper rolling the dough into balls then rolling them in sugar. Wearing the Santa hats was his idea!
Every day we would visit the basement to check out the construction progress. While looking around downstairs, Nathan and Dad would pretend that the basement was finished when it was obviously far from it. Together they would imagine where the couch would be positioned in the family room, which seat would be theirs, and pretend sitting all relaxed at the couch watching TV together. Silly boys! Myself on the other hand, was working hard to keep the dust under control in our living space.

Mid December we planned an early birthday celebration for Nathan. He decided on having a sleep over party with one of his best friends, Gabe. They had a lot of fun together and discovered they have the same pajamas! Nathan and Gabe enjoyed playing with his new present from his friend, eating popcorn, watching Boss Baby movie, and staying up way too late.
Nana, Papa and their cat Sammy moved in with us temporarily because they sold their house from out of state and found a house nearby us...just minutes away! They stayed here while their house was under minor construction. It was fun having dinner with them almost every night and Nathan quickly got spoiled having some extra grandparent time and more storytellers at bedtime.
Buddy the Elf came back! Here are a few things he was up to this year before returning to the North Pole. Nathan loves Buddy more than Santa at this point. He talks about him throughout the year.
Nathan is officially 9 years old! He enjoyed tearing into his birthday presents! He is always so polite and appreciative of each of his gifts - love that about him! The only kind of cake this kiddo will eat is an ice cream cake. For whatever reason this year, it was a challenge getting a cake that wasn't Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday's, or some girly princess cake. All we wanted was a small birthday cake for a boy...and I came home with the largest cake ever! We had so much cake taking up freezer space that I was asking contractors if they wanted a slice.
Next up, Christmas! Despite being in the middle of construction with dust and disorder, we hosted a nice Christmas dinner for the Campbell family at our house....plus it was convenient that my parents were living here with us. Nathan was so excited to finally open his presents!
