Happy New Year! It's amazing that another year is now behind us.
Nathan loves to play with Legos (the big boy kind where tiny pieces can easily hide in the carpet). He is creative in making his own buildings or small vehicles. He built a helicopter by following the directions and had little help from Daddy. Nathan was proud of himself.
Nathan likes to read to us letters from a sign, label, or book cover. He does a very good job recognizing all the letters of the alphabet, even when there are different fonts. It's exciting to see how close he is to reading words soon. Our little boy is growing up so fast.
We continue to enjoy family game time together. Nathan is better about not always being the first person to start the game. He is also okay with not always being the one to win every game too. Good job Nathan!
| Only Nathan would think to play with the game Jenga this way. |
Nathan enjoys hanging out with Daddy and going to "manly" stores like Home Depot or Northern Tool & Equipment. Here is a picture of an enormous wrench that weighed about as much as Nathan does!
February 2014 Highlights:
One afternoon in the car together, Isaac and I were talking to Nathan about how he will make new friends when he goes to Kindergarten this fall. His reply, with a serious expression on his face, was "I can't make friends; I don't have super powers!". He was thinking that he had to create new friends when we meant that he will meet new friends. Adorable!
Nathan really enjoys hearing stories and little tidbits about when he was a baby. It makes him laugh and smile to hear about his past. He also likes to see pictures and watch videos from when he was a baby or toddler. It's fun answering his cute questions.
Mommy decided to be creative this year and make Valentine's for Nathan's preschool class; there was close to 30 cards and Nathan signed the back of each one. Nathan enjoyed getting a coloring/activity book and Disney Pixar movie 'The Incredibles' from us. He loved the card and stickers that Nana and Papa Campbell sent in the mail for him.
Mommy and Daddy attended the Kindergarten registration meeting this month. I don't think my emotions of Nathan starting school have really sunken in yet. Right now I'm more focused on making sure his medical appointments are scheduled and forms are filled out in preparation to the first day of school. Nathan will be attending an excellent school district, but I'm a little nervous about all the unknowns until we get a new routine in place. This is a whole new world for the three of us.
March 2014 Highlights:
Nathan had his six month dental checkup this month. He had a great report and the hygienist informed me that Nathan now has all four of his six year molars.
On March 20th I decided to talk to Nathan about wiping his own bottom after he goes to the bathroom (a big goal before starting Kindergarten). He has a positive attitude about this which is wonderful and he is getting better each day. He choose his prize that he will get after he accomplishes this task without assistance - the Disney Pixar movie 'Planes'. He is really excited to pick this movie up at the store when it comes time.
Nathan keeps asking us when he gets to wear shorts and sandals and go to the beach. He is so anxious to get outside and play. He has a new bike that is waiting for him to ride around too. We love that he enjoys playing outdoors although mother nature isn't friendly to him with his tree pollen allergy. We were proactive this year with the allergy doctor and have a plan. Hopefully Nathan will not suffer so badly like he did last year. As to the beach part of his request, we are thinking of taking Nathan to a nearby lake this summer to get the beach itch out of him since there are no current plans of a vacation that involves the ocean and beach.
Here is Nathan with one of his great wood block creations. We love his imagination and creativity.
