Nathan has changed so much from the last month. His communication, the foods he eats, his increasing vocabulary, and something now on his feet - shoes! He turned 16 months old on April 23, 2010. Here is his monthly write-up and pictures.
* Nathan is pointing to everything and saying "uh, uh, uh" - meaning he wants someone to tell him what the object is he is pointing at and won't stop until you address him. He has said the word: "Daisy" (our cats name), "ni-ni" (for ni-night), "pretty" (probably because this is said a lot in reference to a decoration that is off limits for touching), and the word "meow" (it's so cute to hear him say this word because he says it without the "m" and the "ow" is drawn out in a lower voice).
* Every time (and I stress every time) the door to the garage is opened to walk out at home or at either Grandparents house, Nathan yells "ah, ah, ah" loudly because he loves to hear his voice echo in the garage.
* Nathan just LOVES to be outside and gets upset when it's time to go inside the house. He points and is taking in everything he sees all around him.
* He is walking a lot now, more frequently and at longer distances on his own. Since he has started walking we bought him a couple pairs of shoes so he can practice walking other than inside the house. The shoes he is currently wearing are size 5...and they are so cute I might add.
* It's so funny to watch Nathan walk on his knees. He can move pretty quickly scooting along the floor like this. I don't know if he is thinking that this is better than crawling but too lazy to get up all the way to walk? It's still wear and tear on the knees of his pants, that's for sure!
* Nathan just loves stuffed animals. Whenever he sees one he will grab the stuffed animal, hold it up toward his face, and give it a great big hug. Maybe he will be a good cuddlier since he is starting to cuddle for a short time. He has even given me a hug a few times when I arrived to pick him up after work.
* He is wearing size 24 months clothes that should get us through the summer (hopefully) and in size 5 diapers. At his doctor's checkup on April 6th (shortly after turning 15 months old), he weighed in at 24 lbs and 32" long which puts him on the full-term baby chart at 50th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height. He's right on track!
* Nathan's doctor gave the go ahead for whole milk and he has been drinking this big boy drink ever since. At first I was switching between whole milk and formula to finish the remaining formula and made sure his body would accept whole milk fine. So far we haven't had any problems or concerns; and now we have used up all the formula at home. It will be so nice not to have to buy formula anymore...and save a little $$$! Yeah!
* He is trying more and more table foods. Whatever we are having for dinner, we have him at least try it. It's so nice to buy less baby/toddler foods and more "regular" foods such as crackers, apple sauce, yogurt, cereal bars, granola bars, graham crackers, turkey franks, chicken, beef, bananas, pears, etc. I think the most challenging type of food to get him to eat (without spitting out) is meat. He seems to be off and on about meat; more so off than on but we're working on this. I have to keep in mind that he only has his front four teeth top and bottom so he doesn't have those chompers for tougher foods.
Nathan has discovered spitting (making a big mess on his face) and grinding his teeth (makes me cringe every time!). These things we are of course working on stopping....
Here are some pictures to enjoy of Nathan at 16 months old.
"Here, want to play with my new ball?" -We went to Walgreen's to get some makeup for myself and on our way to the checkout we found a display of balls. As soon as I picked up the ball to show him, he grabbed it, hugged it, and didn't want to let go. One of his favorite things....
In this video Nathan is walking on his knees, playing with his new ball, and saying his version of "meow".
