10 Months Old

It feels like I recently completed the write-up for Nathan’s 9 month posting and now here’s the next one already! Nathan turned 10 months old on October 23rd. There are so many changes Nathan has made and accomplished from the last month. He is getting to be such a big boy and makes his Mommy and Daddy so proud and happy each and every day. Below is what’s new with Nathan:

On The Move
He crawled forward for the first time on October 10th. Isaac had Nathan on the kitchen rug keeping him occupied while I prepared his food. He was scooting around on the floor then Isaac noticed he was actually crawling…forward. I specify forward because he started crawling backwards first a few weeks prior to this fun event. Of course Nathan stopped crawling when I turned to watch so I got down on my hands and knees and encouraged him to crawl to me and he did – on the kitchen tile no less!

Since he’s been mobile, Nathan has been crawling to the kitty food and water. But I think he’ll soon lose interest because I keep telling him no ever time he crawls over to this and he’s starting to be interested in discovering other new things around the house.

Nathan sometimes throws his head backwards or arches his back while holding him. He’s doing this out of fun but is startling because his weight distribution changes and feel unprepared for it. He likes to repeat throwing his head back and then smiles about it. We now know to watch for this little activity of his.

Another fun thing Nathan does is, while laying on his back he likes to lift up both legs then thrown them down repeatedly! He does this both in fun and in frustration and is funny to watch especially when he throws his legs down in his crib because he gets a bounce going from the mattress.

He also likes to stand on his hands and feet with his bottom up in the air. It’s so funny to see him do this. This may be a sign that he will soon start pulling himself up on furniture since he has the leg and arm strength!

Voice Discovery
He is discovering the different pitches and volumes of his voice by repeating the same sound over and over again. He can be quite loud at times…sometimes at places where he should have a quieter voice like at Grandpa Wiese’s award party or in church. Nathan still likes to “sing along” to songs.

Brush, Brush!
Nathan has his very own toothbrush and berry flavor toothpaste (without fluoride of course) that is Sesame Street themed. He enjoys getting his two teeth brushed (the bottom middle two) and knows to open his mouth when I bring the toothbrush towards him. His Mommy even enjoys hearing the brushing sound the bristles make on his brand new baby teeth. Yes, she’s crazy!

Sometimes Nathan plays with his bottom teeth with his fingers; like he is figuring things out. Speaking of teeth, looks like the top two teeth are about to show. He seems to do really while teething; we haven’t had to give him Infant Tylenol too often….yet.

Mobile House Preparation
We lowered his crib to the lowest position since Nathan can get to a sitting position on his own now. I went around the house and put in all the outlet covers since he is on the move for sure! He has not been into cupboards yet but notices handles on the dresser and night stand drawers. My next safety task is to centralize the bathroom cleaners with the kitchen ones and have Isaac install the cabinet lock in the kitchen cupboard under the sink. Recently we purchased a baby gate designed to walk through and the door closes behind you. We have this gate setup going downstairs so this way Nathan can be safe on the main floor. We are also having to place decorations up higher because he thinks Mommy and Daddy’s decorations make for nice toys. “No, the Type-R car is not for you.” “No, Mommy’s Willow Tree figurines are not a chew toy!”

Bedtime Routine
Now that Nathan is a bit older we started a bedtime time routine. After supper and play time he gets a bath (if it’s bath night), put jammies on, and brush his teeth. After goodnight kisses from Daddy, Nathan and Mommy cuddle in the rocking chair in his room with his blanket at his side and read a book. Daddy enjoys reading him books too. After Nathan’s bedtime story, I rock him for a while and sing/hum a few lullabies before laying him in his bed for the night. He still continues to sleep through the night for us!

Nathan enjoys being read to and looking at the pictures on each page. At first he wasn't too interested and would wiggle around a little bit on my lap and would need a toy to hold while getting through the book. Now he sits still and seems to be really interested at what he is looking at and listening to; he even has started “talking” as we’re reading.

Play Time
Nathan has really been enjoying the plastic blocks in different shapes and colors that were brought out for him to play with. I showed him how to knock down a block tower and he thought that was something else. Each time a tower is built for him, he knocks it down. A basket of toys for him to play with is kept on each level to make it easier no matter where we are hanging out.

Food & Clothing
His feeding schedule has changed to work towards a three meal-a-day schedule. He eats four times a day: First serving in morning with 6oz formula and 4oz jar fruit; second serving at 11:00/11:30am with 5oz formula, 2.5oz jar each of vegetable and fruit, and rice cereal with banana; third serving at 3:00/3:30pm for snack with 6oz of formula; then final serving at supper time at home with 5oz formula, 4oz jar of vegetable/meat combo, 2.5oz jar fruit, and rice cereal with banana. Nathan is starting to outgrow his 9 month size outfits; soon to be wearing 12 month size clothes this winter. He is currently wearing size three diapers.

Now for the extra fun part….pictures. Enjoy!

  1. What a true Blesisng is this beuatiful little boy of yours! Thanks so much for sharing his progress. I have enjoyed watching him from a distance.
I had written something for you but still have not mailed it. I guess this is a good venue. Hope you enjoy it.

    I Knew You Were There

I couldn’t wait to meet you
So I came a little early
Not knowing, of course, that my timing
Would create such stress and worry.

They say I am a gift from God
    One delivered prematurely
And because of His involvement I know
    Angels brought me, most assuredly

He knows exactly what to do
    When fear and tensions rise
Though I’ll admit that I was worried
Seeing tears fall from your eyes

    Surrounded by all that equipment
Hey!! I am one real high tech kid!!
But none of it made the difference
That my Mommy and Daddy did.

I’m sorry that I made you cry
And that I caused so much unrest
But through it all, I want you to know
    As parents, you’re the best!!

Your gentle touch and tender words
    The warm love from within
    Was exactly what I needed
    For my growing to begin.

I have all 10; both fingers and toes
Now, can grasp your hand? Let’s see…
Oh yeah!! That’s Mom and Dad, I know
I felt you constantly here with me.

Now that we’ve made this journey
    And together, come so far
One short car ride as a family
And HOME is where we are.

Through all of it you were there for me
And knew just what to do
With tender words and loving care
    My Gift from God…..was YOU.

    Wishing you all God's Best
